About Kloof Street Swartland Rouge
Kloof Street Swartland Rouge is a barrel-aged red wine made by the Mullineux & Leeu South African winery in Swartland, Coastal Region, with the Syrah and other red varieties.
After working in different wineries around the world, Chris and Andrea Mullineux fell in love with the Swartland wine region. They settled there in 2007 and began to make their own wines with an authentic profile and full of typicity. The project gained extra momentum in 2013 when they joined the Leeu Collection group. As a result, Mullineux & Leeu is now one of the most prominent wineries in the flourishing Swartland region in South Africa.
Kloof Street Swartland Rouge comes from eight different plots located in different parts of the region north of Cape Town. Strains between 12 and 40 years old, planted in shale and granite terroirs and cultivated sustainably. All the work is carried out manually and each variety is harvested separately at the optimum point of ripeness.
In the winery, 75% of the Kloof Street Swartland Rouge grapes are destemmed and then fermented with native yeasts and with cap plunges once or twice a day. Then the wine ages for 11 months in 225-litre French oak barrels being used for the 3rd and 4th year and in 500-litre demi-muids.
Kloof Street Swartland Rouge is the result of a bouquet of red varieties grown in different soils in Swartland. A perfect introduction for those who want to try a wine from this region at a very affordable price.

2017 | Kloof Street Swartland Rouge is a fruity wine with a fragrant nose of dark fruits, violets and spices. On the palate it is meaty and medium-bodied with firm tannins and a fresh and persistent finish. |
