Julien Courtois Ancestral is a natural red wine coupage of the Gamay, Côt and other red varieties, made by Julien Courtois under the Vin de France denomination, in the Loire Valley, France.

The grapes used to make the Julien Courtois Ancestral wine come from vineyards planted with strains aged between 12 and 40 years old growing on clay and flint soils. The harvest is carried out manually towards the end of September or beginning of October. When the grapes reach the winery, they macerate for a week and then ferment with their native yeasts, without temperature control for between 2 weeks and a month. The resulting wine ages for 18 months in barrels and is then bottled without being filtered or clarified.

Julien Courtois, following in the footsteps of his father Claude, established his vineyard Le Clos de la Bruyère in 1998, where he now works 4.5 hectares according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture, alongside his girlfriend Heidi Kuka. All stages of cultivation are carried out manually with minimal intervention. Chemical treatments are not used in the vineyards, instead they use compounds made with natural products. This winery makes honest and remarkable wines that are unique.
