Jean-Claude Lapalu Brouilly Cuvée des Fous

Jean-Claude Lapalu Brouilly Cuvée des Fous is a natural monovarietal Gamay red wine from the AOC Brouilly produced by Jean-Claude Lapalu.

Jean-Claude Lapalu comes from a family of Beaujolais winemakers. He sees his work as kitchen-oenology, and seeks for his wines to become the pure reflection of the terroir . . He does not add sulphites to the wine nor chaptalise it by adding sugars to compensate for a hypothetical low alcoholic level. He bottles when there is a full moon, uses natural corks and submits the wines to ageing in French oak barrels. It cultivates about 12 hectares of vineyards and the average age of the vines is around 40 years. He cultivates them organically.

Jean-Claude Lapalu Brouilly Cuvée des Fous is made with partially destemmed bunches from the domaine’s oldest strains. They grow in granite soils and were planted around 1900. Once the must-wine is vatted, it macerates with the skins for about 3 weeks. The wine then ages in used barrels for about 8 months, and is finally bottled without filtering or clarifying. It is made without adding sulphites during the whole process.

Jean-Claude Lapalu Brouilly Cuvée des Fous is one of the winery’s most legendary wines. A natural fresh and fruity Gamay that is delicate, fine and balanced with rounded tannins.
