Habla Nº23

They say that when Michelangelo Buonarroti, the renowned Italian architect, painter and sculptor, finished his “Moses” sculpture, which he considered his most realistic work, he hit it gently on the knee with his mallet and said: “Habla” (“Speak”). 

 

Habla was born under this philosophy: the search for perfection through an avant-garde winery producing wines that elegantly reflect the essence of the land they come from. This is a limited series of numbered wines. The first one was made in 2005 and is out of circulation, as are all the other ones up to number 17. 

 

Habla Nº 23 is a red wine made from Malbec grapes grown in Trujillo, a municipality in the province of Cáceres (Extremadura) in a difficult, not very fertile land, which forces each vine to be the best it can be. Following fermentation, the resulting wine is aged for twelve months in French oak barrels where it is further refined before being released for sale.

 

Habla Nº 23 is surprising, not only because it is made from a grape, Malbec, which is more common in Argentina, where it is the flagship variety, or in France, where the Bordeaux coupages and the extraordinary single-variety wines made in Cahors have made their way around the world. 

 

Bodegas Habla have achieved the miracle of extracting the best from a land that seemed arid and lifeless, giving a new, more “haute couture” aspect to the wines of Extremadura, which were little known, rustic and high in alcohol content. Habla Nº 23 is a sensual and enveloping wine, that is rich in fruit and very typical of the variety that has plenty to say.
