About Ezio Cerruti MacFol Macerato
Albert Einstein said "The person who follows the crowd will usually not go beyond the crowd. The person who walks alone is likely to find himself in places where no one has been before". And this is how Ezio Cerruti, an introverted and perfectionist winemaker from Piedmont (Italy), achieves unique natural wines, a pure expression of the terroir. The truth is that after finishing his studies in a field completely different from viticulture, Ezio broke with everything and decided to devote himself full-time to what he’s truly passionate about: the 7 hectares of vineyards which surround his house in Castiglione Tinella, halfway between Asti and Langhe. Thus, working exclusively with the Moscato variety, he produces sparkling, sweet and dry wines far from technological methods and without being bound by market demand.
Ezio Cerruti MacFol Macerato is an orange wine made from old vines planted on steep slopes about 400 metres above sea level. They’re vines with an average age of 60 years located on soils composed mainly of clayey loams. It’s grown organically, without the use of chemicals and incidentally. After a selective manual harvest, the Ezio Cerruti MacFol Macerato grapes spend two weeks fermenting on their skins in the cellar before being pressed. The wine then spends 18 months in botti.
In a place where the Moscato variety is synonymous with sparkling wine, Ezio Cerruti breaks away from stereotypes and produces Ezio Cerruti MacFol Macerato, an orange wine of rare harmony, where fruits, flowers, salt and spices are intertwined.

2018 | Ezio Cerruti MacFol Macerato 2018 is an aromatic orange wine with suggestive notes of very ripe fruit, hints of wild flowers and herbs and saline memories. On the palate it’s complex, fresh and energetic. An orange wine with firm tannins and a pleasant bitterness at the finish. |
