El Rey del Glam is a red wine from the V.T. Castilla y León produced by the Alfredo Maestro winery. This wine is made exclusively with the Garnacha variety.
The grapes come from two different estates owned by the winery: Navarrendondilla, situated in the province of Ávila 1,100 metres above sea level, and Peñafiel, closer to Valladolid, situated between 700 and 920 metres above sea level. The vineyards are home to granitic rock, sandy loam, clayey and limestone soils.
The harvest is carried out manually. One the grapes have arrived at the winery, they are incubated whole without being pressed or destemmed. The winemaking process begins with carbonic maceration, which is carried out in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts from the vineyards of the winery. The debourbage process is then carried out, followed by malolactic fermentation in the same tanks. Clarification and stabilisation of the wine is done naturally. Before El Rey del Glam is bottled, the wine is racked to eliminate possible impurities or solid residues.
Alfredo Maestro is a winemaker who defies and challenges the norms when it comes to winemaking. He understands that a wine must reflect where it comes from. He therefore eliminates the use of exogenous elements (i.e sulphur, acids, filters and stabilizers). According to Alfredo Maestro, he only really needs three elements to create a wine: the grapes, well-kept vines and healthy soils.
