About Donovan Rall Grenache Blanc

Donovan Rall Grenache Blanc is a single-variety Grenache Blanc white wine made by Donovan Rall under the Wine of Origin Swartland denomination in the Coastal Region, South Africa.

The clusters used to make the Donovan Rall Grenache Blanc come from an ungrafted vine in Piekenierskloof, which is harvested at two different stages of ripeness. When the grapes reach the winery, they ferment spontaneously, with some of the grapes in contact with their skins. The resulting wine ages in cement eggs.

Donovan Rall is a young independent winemaker who, after graduating from Stellenbosch University and travelling the world working in different wineries, decided to return to South Africa to settle in Swartland, a place that has inspired him to work with Mediterranean varieties in a natural and unique way that gives his wines a distinctive personality.
2018 Donovan Rall Grenache Blanc 2018 is a white wine with deep minerality on the nose accompanied by aromas of citrus, peach flowers, dried herbs, ginger and spices. On the palate it has an interesting texture, with weight and depth and extraordinarily pure fruit led by a present acidity and with a touch of almond skin. A wine with a long, elegant and slightly bitter finish.
