Domaine Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Athanor 2015 is a long-aged wine with velvety tannins, but still with the freshness that is so typical of Beaujolais. Black fruits stand out, along with soft notes of spices and a penetrating minerality.
Domaine Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Athanor is a Gamay red wine made by Jean Foillard in the AOC Morgon, in Beaujolais, in the south of Burgundy.
As a general rule, Beaujolais are sweet wines that are usually enjoyed very cold and soon after they are made. However, Domaine Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Athanor is the exception that proves the rule with its 12 month aging in French oak barrels.
The man behind the project: Jean Foillard, a faithful advocate of returning to traditional viticulture based on late harvesting, no herbicides or pesticides, and using minimal sulphur and no filtration. The quest for this tradition is also reflected in the choice of the Gamay grape, which is typical of the area and produces fruitier wines than Pinot Noir (the other great Burgundy red variety).
With these characteristics, Domaine Jean Foillard Morgon Cuvée Athanor is a mature and well-formed Beaujolais. A true Beaujolais from beginning to end.
