About De Martino Old Vines Las Olvidadas

De Martino Old Vines Las Olvidadas is a natural, wood-aged red wine made by De Martino with the Pais and San Francisco varieties in the Itata Valley, in the Southern Wine Region (Chile). 
 
The Italian De Martino family arrived in Chile in 1934 with the aim of discovering the country's vineyards and maximising the expression of each terroir. In a short time the winery became well-known and gained a reputation for being innovative. Among their great projects, the Old Vine Series stands out. These wines are made with old vines planted more than 100 years ago that showcase the full personality of this area. 
 
De Martino Old Vines Las Olvidadas comes from a small vineyard in the Itata Valley located 22 km from the Pacific Ocean. It is estimated that they were planted 100 to 300 years ago. These are old vines on granite soils that are cultivated using ecological principles. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness. 
 
In the winery, the De Martino Old Vines Las Olvidadas grapes are passed through a “zaranda”, a traditional sieve that separates the stalks from the berries. The grapes are then pressed by foot and fermented with native yeasts and no added sulphites. Finally, the wine ages in used French oak barrels for 12 months.
 
De Martino Old Vines Las Olvidadas was made in an effort to recover Chile’s original winemaking traditions. A low-production, elegant red wine with an original and unique character.

De Martino Old Vines Las Olvidadas 2018 is a smooth red wine with delicious aromas of red fruits, floral notes and hints of spice. On the palate it is deep, pleasant and enveloping. A wine with an elegant texture, velvety tannins and a mineral and fruity finish.
