David Léclapart L'Amateur

2020

Champagne Extra Brut Biodynamic. 22 months in bottle.
About David Léclapart L'Amateur
Although the well-known quote by architect Mies Van der Rohe “less is more” is generally used in the world of the arts, it fits perfectly with the working philosophy of winegrower David Léclapart. Great-grandson, grandson and son of ‘vignerons’, he is a leading champion of biodynamic agriculture with maximum respect for the terroir. Since taking on the family estate in Trepail, east of the Reims mountains, he has been committed to returning to the unique Champagne de Vigneron and has become a benchmark in the region. In order to do so, he lets the terroir, climate, grape variety and people to live in unity, without any intervention that could damage the natural balance of the ecosystem.
One example of this work is David Léclapart L'Amateur, a single-variety sparkling wine made from Chardonnay grapes from 6 plots in a Premier Cru area with chalky soils. As a result of precise and minimalist work, he produces a pure and high quality raw material to create a wine aged in second-hand barrels for 12 months and with a second fermentation in the bottle following the traditional champenoise method. Finally, after 22 months of aging, the wine is disgorged followed by dosage with the expedition liqueur (less than 6 gr/l of sugar, Extra Brut).
David Léclapart L'Amateur is the most economical champagne in the Léclapart catalogue. However, don’t be fooled by the name. This is not an amateur wine at all. It is undoubtedly a champagne full of purity, freshness and minerality, made through a passion for the natural rhythms of the vineyard and the wine. The less intervention, the more complex the flavours.
2015 |
David Léclapart L'Amateur is a creamy Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru with a complex nose of baked apple, chalky notes and marked hints of pastry. On the palate it is complex, fresh and very mineral. A champagne of great purity with a very well integrated bubble, refreshing acidity and a subtle sweetness. |
