About COZs vo-Vital Macerado
COZs vo-Vital Macerado is a natural and ecological orange wine made with the Vital variety in Lisbon by the COZs wine project.
Under the name of Cozs, António Marques-Da-Cruz and Tiago Teles joined forces in 2015 to make wines in the vineyards owned by the late maestro José Mendonça in Figueira da Foz, a town north of Lisbon. These are natural style wines that express the freshness and salinity of the Atlantic breeze.
COZs vo-Vital Macerado comes from 25-year-old vines cultivated in Serra de Montejunto. This is a rare local variety planted in clay and limestone soil, just a few kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean and organically cultivated. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested manually.
In the winery, the COZs vo-Vital Macerado grapes firstly macerate with the skins for 14 days. They then spontaneously ferment with native yeasts in 1,000-litre tanks and are pressed ready to age in old wooden barrels for 11 months. The wine is finally bottled without being filtered, clarified or adding sulphur.
Made with a very rare variety, COZs vo-Vital Macerado is a rare but elegant orange wine. A wine with plenty of character that goes very well with all kinds of foods.
2018 | COZs vo-Vital Macerado 2018 is an orange wine that offers fragrant aromas of stone fruit, herbal notes and salty nuances. On the palate it is delicate, fresh and very lively. It has delicate tannins, bright acidity and a very refined finish. |
