Comando G Mataborricos is a natural red wine aged in cement, made by Comando G with the Garnacha Tinta and Cariñena varieties in the Sierra de Gredos (Madrid).
The Comando G project was set up in 2005 by three winemaker friends who shared a passion for Garnacha and saw a great opportunity to get the best out of this variety in the Sierra de Gredos. The name is inspired by a cartoon series where the characters fiercely defend Earth from outer space. But the G is also inspired by the Garnacha variety and the Sierra de Gredos. The project is currently run by two of the three founders: Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi and Fernando García; and their wines have been awarded the highest Parker scores.
Comando G Mataborricos comes from vines aged between 50 and 80 years old. These are old strains planted in sandy soils weathered from granite, slate and quartz and lying in a mild and humid microclimate. They are cultivated using environmentally friendly agriculture and organic treatments, and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.
Comando G Mataborricos is made following a philosophy of minimal intervention. Firstly, the bunches are fermented whole with native yeasts in open oak vats and with a slow maceration. The wine is then aged in cement jars for around 12 months.
As the lightest wine made by this young company, Comando G Mataborricos has the same juiciness, energy and attraction that every Comando G wine has. An ideal wine to drink slightly chilled.
