About Clos Bellane Marsanne Resurrection
Sometimes, what we plan doesn't always come to fruition. Between what you study and where you end up working, life can take many turns. A prime example is Stéphane Vedeau, who began his career as a footballer at the age of 19 while studying Economics at the University of Paris. However, in 1987, his path took an unexpected turn when he started working in the wine industry, in the sales department, where he discovered his true passion for winemaking. In 1992, he purchased his first vineyard in Languedoc, and in 2000, he marked his entry into the Rhône Valley with La Ferme du Mont (southern Rhône) and J Boutin (northern Rhône). Later, in 2010, Stéphane acquired Clos Bellane in Valréas, and in 2020, Val des Rois, located next to Clos. With over 35 years of experience in the industry, we can say we are in front of a great new-generation winemaker. Among his projects, Clos Bellane stands out as a small and unique estate situated atop the hills on the outskirts of Valréas, in the northernmost section of the southern Rhône. A stunning estate whose wines have achieved success thanks to its pure limestone slopes among hills and an altitude of over 400 meters. Coupled with highly respectful organic practices, the result is a balance and purity worthy of admiration.
From an extensive list of cuvées, Clos Bellane Marsanne Resurrection deserves special attention. A wine whose name is already a statement because, as Stéphane himself says, the "Resurrection of Marsanne" is the soul of what marsanne could be. Made with this variety and a small percentage of viognier, the vines are planted on limestone soil and under the refreshing influences of the alpine foothills. It is organically farmed, and the harvest is done manually at the optimal moment of ripeness. In the winery, the alcoholic fermentation takes place in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts, and then the wine ages in French oak barrels for a period of 12 months.
With the designation of origin Côtes du Rhône Villages Valréas, Clos Bellane Marsanne Resurrection stands out for its minerality and aromatic richness. A most surprising marsanne where the Rhône white rises to the level of regions as powerful as the Loire or Burgundy.
