Characteristics Château des Tours Côtes du Rhône
Emmanuel Reynaud is one of the most renowned and prestigious winemakers in the world. So, it is not unusual for any distributor who is lucky enough to sell his wines to see bottles disappear almost immediately, in fact, it is really not easy to get hold of his reds. And in fact this is often the case. However, Emmanuel Reynaud doesn’t like this, and he even goes as far as to tell distributors off, refusing to send more wine and accusing them of selling his products too quickly.
This spirit, which avoids extreme posturing, is partly inherited from his uncle, Jacques Reynaud, another interesting character if ever there was one, who only sold his wines to those who passed his particular test. This vigneron, who for years has been running the prestigious Chateau Raya (producing wines that sell for four figures), always offered customers wine from the cooperative first (obviously passing it off as one of his own). Only if the taster showed distaste were they worthy of buying one of his bottles.
Like his uncle, Emmanuel Reynaud is an enemy of hurry and a lover of all things true. He doesn’t like fast things and deeply loves that his wines are hidden away where they can only be found by true aficionados, those who truly love wine. “I’m very selective, I’m quite strict in choosing who can buy my wine,” Reynaud says. “I turn away people who think money can buy everything.” And for this reason, because money is synonymous with learning to taste, they also produce a much more affordable version of their wines at their Château des Tours.
For several years, the Reynaud family has been working in the A.O.C. Côtes du Rhône, in the southern Rhône Valley, where limestone sands, clays and alluvial soils abound. Their vineyards are exquisitely tended, have very low yield and the grapes wait patiently on the vine until they are completely ripe. The question is not to tire or push the plant, but to respect the amount of grapes it wants to produce.
In the winery, Emmanuel Reynaud is the man “who hides behind the terroir”, simply listening to the fruit, which will always dictate the method to be followed and the work required.
Château des Tours Côtes du Rhône is a very special wine, one of those that you have to try at least once in your life. We would encourage you to get one, but we don’t want to end up like some distributors: where we sell the wine too fast and Emmanuel Reynaud gets angry with us. So think again. Only the chosen ones will be able to discover the magnitude of this wine. Will you be one of them?
