About Chalk Hill Luna Cabernet Sauvignon
Although the lines between the new and old world are becoming more and more blurred, the truth is that conceptually when we talk about Australia we are talking about the New World. This label can unintentionally lead to certain clichés that would make us think that the winemaking tradition in this country is quite recent. However, to begin with, Australia has one great advantage over old Europe: the absence of the devastating phylloxera disease. So it makes sense that some of the oldest vineyards in the world are found in this country. One of the first settlers to plant vines in the Adelaide area of South Australia was John Harvey in 1839. Since then his family, generation after generation, has dedicated itself body and soul to viticulture and now this is one of the most recognised wineries with small artisan productions under the Chalk Hill label that reflect the region’s unique qualities.
Without a doubt, Chalk Hill is one of the most consistent producers of high quality grapes. With six vineyards in McLaren Vale with different soil types and topography, it has unique growing environments. Chalk Hill Luna Cabernet Sauvignon is a Cabernet Sauvignon from vines aged between 15 and 20 years old. After the harvest, the wine is destemmed, crushed and fermented on the skins for 7 days. The wine is then racked into third and fourth use French oak barrels to age over 14 months and is finally bottled with great aging potential.
The result is very surprising. Chalk Hill Luna Cabernet Sauvignon is a red wine in which the Cabernet reveals how well it suits the southern Australian climate. A foreign variety from the old world that, after six generations, expresses itself with its own authentic identity.
2019 |
Chalk Hill Luna Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of ripe black fruits, herbal notes, and spicy and balsamic hints. On the palate it is flavoursome, juicy and vibrant. A medium-bodied wine with fine-grained tannins and integrated freshness that provide structure. The finish is lingering and persistent. |
