Birichino Enz Vineyard Mr Natural

An icon of the underground movement of the 60s and 70s and considered one of the great comic authors of the 20th century, Robert Crumb is an American scriptwriter and cartoonist who is full of irony, satire and no filter. These qualities go hand in hand with the Mr Natural range of natural wines that Alex Krause and John Locke have created at their Birichino winery in Santa Cruz, California (USA). That is why these two winemakers, considered members of the “new wave California”, requested the collaboration of the master for the design of their labels. A contribution that undoubtedly matches the mischievous spirit that characterises this winery (Birichino is Italian for mischievous).

Birichino Enz Vineyard Mr Natural is a single-variety Mourvèdre from the remote AVA Lime Kiln Valley in California (USA). Two vineyards cultivated by the prestigious Enz winemaking family on limestone and granite soils at 1,000 metres above sea level. A respectful agriculture is used without chemical products and the grapes are harvested by hand when they reach optimum ripeness. In the winery, winemaking has a focus on minimal intervention, without adding or subtracting anything. Fermentation is spontaneous with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks and then the wine ages for a 9 months in used French oak barrels. Finally, the wine is bottled without filtering or clarifying.

Alex Krause and John Locke already turned the concept of Californian wine on its head when they started their project in 2008, and now with their new Mr Natural line they have finally broken with the establishment entirely. Birichino Enz Vineyard Mr Natural is a natural red wine that has everything it needs to be a provocateur with a nonconformist spirit.
