D.O.Ca. Rioja (La Rioja)
Baigorri B70 is a red wine made by Bodegas Baigorri in the town of Samaniego, in OJ La Rioja. Baigorri B70 is a single varietal Tempranillo, made from grapes from very old vines over 70 years old, planted in small plots in the nearby Sierra Cantabria.
Hence its name, Baigorri B70, which shows the age of the vines. The grapes are selected grain by grain on sorting tables using vibration and weight.
A long maceration of the grape is performed before fermentation, to extract most of the aromas. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels of 600 litres. The malolactic fermentation takes place at about 20 °, with own lees in new French oak barrels of a super fine grain.
The aging of Baigorri B70 is 22 months in French oak barrels, before spending a further 12 months in bottle. Thanks to the innovative architecture of Bodegas Baigorri, all the processing of Baigorri B70 is done using gravity, without using any mechanics.
The grapes come from the first floor, and move down through the floors under the influence of gravity until they reach floor -7 where the aging room is.
Baigorri B70 can be consumed now or kept in a cellar in good condition until 2030.
A great wine from La Rioja, the jewel of Bodegas Baigorri. A very elegant and balanced wine from old vines of the Tempranillo variety.
On the palate, this wine is complex, elegant and round. There is a good balance between aging from the wood and tannins.
The aftertaste is long and persistent.
