Algueira Carravel is a red wine produced by the Algueira winery in Ribera Sacra.
It is a single variety of Mencia from vineyards planted on very steep slopes, with an incline of 85% rising on the banks of the River Sil. The floors are shale, very similar to slate, this laminate mineral gives the wine a very special mineral character. The vineyards, protected by the river and slopes, enjoy a Mediterranean microclimate with Atlantic influences. A climate warmer than the rest of Galicia. Winters are cold and rainy, but the summers are very hot with temperatures that can reach 45 ° C.
The harvest is done manually in boxes of 20 Kg. They benefit from the sun and heat, so the grape preserves maximum freshness. The grapes are trodden in the traditional manner, before fermentation in stainless steel tanks with native yeast. Algueira Carravel is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.
An elegant, fresh and very mineral Mencia.
The taste is a very cool and elegant. Toasted notes, spices and minerals.
A great acidity with pleasant tannins.
On the nose there are aromas of raspberry and currant with light minerals, floral notes, balsamic and toasted flavours.
