Abreu Vineyards Cappella

Abreu Vineyards Cappella is an ecological red wine aged in wood made by the North American winery Abreu Vineyards with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot varieties in AVA Napa Valley, California.

 

David Abreu is a rancher who founded Abreu Vineyards in 1980 and thanks to his intuition and experience, has ended up focussing his production on just four properties with a single vineyard in Santa Helena: Madrona Ranch, Cappella, Thorevilos and Las Posadas. Considered to be one of the best growers of premium grapes in Napa Valley, his wine sales are extremely limited, selling mainly to members of a private list and through select online shops. Abreu Vineyards Cappella is one of the oldest vineyards in Santa Helena. With an area of 2.5 hectares, this plot lies next to a Catholic cemetery and was planted for the first time in 1869. However, David uprooted the old vines and replanted using French patterns. He was so determined that he uprooted them again and replanted until he was growing exceptional fruit. This is all meticulous work based on organic farming without the use of chemicals.

 

Small tanks are used to vinify Abreu Vineyards Cappella and the fruit from each vineyard is kept separately. Following fermentation, the wine is aged in 225-litre French oak barrels for 18 months. Production includes a rigorous selection process and from a typical vintage of 1000 barrels, only 1,000 cases end up on the market.

 

Decorated with an illustration by master engraver Bob Swartley and then printed using a 150-year-old printing press, this wine is a true work of art. If you have chance to try it, don’t miss out because Abreu Vineyards Cappella is a very limited production wine that is difficult to find.
