Viñas del Vero is named after a river in the Somontano the foot of the Pyrenees, famous for its gorges and canyons. Viñas del Vero S.A. set in late 1986 with the acquisition of 550 acres in Barbastro and other nearby towns. In 1987 began to replant the land with vineyards of the region's traditional grape varieties (Tempranillo, Moristel, Garnacha and Macabeo), along with others of different origins (Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot noir).
The first wines of Viñas del Vero appear on the market in spring 1990 and are made in an experimental winery Salas Bajas. In 1987, the company had acquired the farm "San Marco" in the construction of the new winery, which opened in July 1993. It is developed around the process of Viñas del Vero, from selecting the grapes to aging and bottling. The winery has a capacity of 70,000 hectoliters and has 250 stainless steel tanks and 8,000 American and French oak barrels. Currently, of Vero Vineyards winery is the first of the name Somontano by its volume and quality of production. The company has 1100 hectares of vineyards and produces 6.5 million bottles a year.
