HISTORY Many argue, with reason, that value increases with time. If so, no arguments are needed to highlight the quality of the wines from the Bodega Rioja Vega, whose origins go back to the year 1882: Times when wine from la Rioja were no more than an adventure undertaken by a few crazy locals from the area.
It is to one of these "madmen", Felipe Ugalde that we owe the birth of this winery with a long history of more than 125 years of love and respect for wine. This winery knows how to progress and adopt new technology without losing the tradition and soul in its wines.
As they say in the Rioja Vega, "Only the classics can be truly modern".
PHILOSOPHY OF WORK
The winery bases its philosophy on two pillars: maximum product care and minimum intervention during the production. The grape and time will take care of the rest.
For Rioja Vega, wine is nothing more than the expression of true passion. The passion for the grape, the vineyard, the countryside, work… The passion to see that all this effort results in magnificent wines, which will not leave anyone indifferent. Wine is understood to be 'an instrument of bringing people together and forging happiness between people', this is what they say.
There are seventy hectares of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano which belong to the winery. The soils are calcareous-clay, poor in organic matter: nutrients and natural salts, but an abundance of pebbles, the rest is gravel and alluvial sand. This facilitates perfect drainage and water retention levels in the fields.
The climate, Atlantic with Continental touches, moderate winter and a gentle summer. The summerly temperature differ greatly between day and night contributing to a ripeness that creates an excellent wine.
In Rioja Vega 'speed is abandoned and replaced by the right to dream'. Their experience and knowledge vouch that the work by the winery, are in no way improvised.
