Bodegas Canopy was born from the dream of Belarmino Fernández Bombín and Alfonso Chacón Gil, two oenologists and winemakers, which in 2004 after finding a very special vineyard, started their project on the soils of the D.O. Méntrida, in Toledo. They own a few estates of vines planted at 750 metres altitude on siliceous soils with abundant granitic bedrock, in the mountains of Sierra de San Vicente, between the valleys of the rivers Tajo and Tiétar.
They conduct a sustainable vine growing, with a minimal intervention, which allows achieving a full expression of the siliceous-granitic soils and matching powerness and elegance. They grow red varieties such as Grenache (from vines aged of 50-60 years-old) and Syrah (from younger vines). These are the varieties used in the elaboration of Congo and Malpaso. They own a vineyard of White Grenache also, planted more than 65 years ago. This variety is used in the elaboration of the great Loco, which is completely sold out. The new vintage is expected to be available in June/July. At Bodegas Canopy the wines are aged in high capacity barrels made of French oak, which provides wooden aromas to their wines' abundant notes of fruit and compensates their freshness and minerality. These are wines with soul and personality.
