It all started when three families from Álava which had been producing wine and working in oenology for several generations decided to bottle and commercialise the wine they used to only produce, age and sell in bulk to other prestigious wineries in the Rioja. This all happened in 1990.
The grapes come from clayey, limestone-rich soils protected by the Sierra of Cantabria. The vineyards are over 50 years old. The dominant varieties in the area are Tempranillo, Garnacha and Viura grapes.
