Characteristics of Virol


Lo Virol Tinto is a red wine from the D.O Costers del Segre produced by Celler Cercavins. The winery is situated in the town on Verdú (Lleida).
Lo Virol Tinto is a blend from the varieties Tempranillo (75%) and Merlot (25%). The grapes derive from vines that are medium-aged, located in the towns of Verdú and Menarquens, in the sub-area of the D.O Costers de Segre that is known as Valls del Riu Corb.
For production, the grape is destemmed and pressed before maceration. Later the grapes undergo the fermentation process at 25ºC for 10 days being stirred 3 or 4 times a day, favouring this method helps the extraction of aromas and colour.
After the fermentation process and after racking the wine then is placed into new French and second-year aged American barrels. Lo Virol Tinto will be in the barrels for 3 months.
Alcohol: 13.5%
Serve at 16ºC

Tasting notes Virol

Sight Cherry red with purple hues. Deep and intense. Nose A strong aromatic intensity. Predominantly red and black fruit with notes of lightly roasted, milk, and spices with a gentle mineral finish. Taste Fresh and pleasant on the palate. Full-bodied, velvety and fruity. Acidity is well balanced. The finish is creamy with roasted touches.
Sight Cherry red with a violet rib. A marked, visibly coloured tear. Nose Deep aromatic intensity. Marked ripe dark and red fruit touches that are well blended with woody notes and a toasted, characteristically mineral background. Taste Fresh, structured and fleshy on the palate with volume and a velvety feel. Long and broad with well-balanced acidity and a creamy, medium-persistency finish. Roasted and chocolate notes.
Sight Intense ruby red with purple-blue trims. Thin tears. Nose Intense fruity wine with lots of notes of red fruit. Floral aromas are noticed along with toasted and milky notes and subtle sweety touches (vanilla). Taste Warm attack and a sweet and tasty mid palate with good presence of fruit. Some spicy aromas provided during the ageing are noticed. Good refreshing finish.
Sight Powerful ruby-red eggplant, of bluish-purple edging with fine fluidity tear. Nose Aromatic component and varietal fruit (cassis, strawberry), I remember floral (violet) and some lactic notes (yogurt), and they appear dolcenques toasty notes (vanilla, mushroom). Taste The entry on the palate is sweet and warm, marking the end spicy varietal character reminiscent of the short aging (green pepper, licorice stick) of long and refreshing aftertaste.

Winery Cercavins

When we refer to the DO Costers del Segre we think of wines with a continental character, which in some respects is true, but extensive replantation of international grape varieties means that the majority of wines produced here lack a geographical or territorial trademark, even though the vast majority of the wines are technologically perfect. However, there are currently wineries such as Mas Blanch i Jové, Costers del Sio, L’Olivera, Lagravera and Thomas Cusiné, among others, who concentrate their effors on producing wines with what are considered varieties native to the region. However, the majority of this region is still dominated by classic international varieties.
