Vino di Anna Don Alfio Qvevri is a natural red wine made from Nerello Mascalese and a little Alicante and Nerello Cappuccio, produced by the Vino di Anna winery, in Sicily.
Vino di Anna is a small family winery located on the north face of Etna, in Sicily. It has been producing natural wines for more than 10 years. It cultivates its small plots of old vines - from 60 to 100 years old - biodynamically andorganically. The vineyards are between 760 and 1200 metres above sea level. It produces according to the principles of minimum intervention, fermenting with native yeasts, without oenological additives, or clarification or filtration, and uses little or no sulphite.
The vineyard plots for Vino di Anna Don Alfio Qvevri are cultivated organically and they are on the north face of Etna between 800 and 950 metres above sea level.
The grapes for Vino di Anna Don Alfio Qvevri are harvested by hand and fermented in Georgian qvevri, terracotta amphoras buried in the ground that are used to make wine. The bunches are destemmed by hand and the must ferments with native yeasts and macerates with the skins for a period of 2 to 4 months. After pressing, the wine goes back into the qvevri until September of the following year. It is not clarified or filtered, nor is CO2 added before bottling.
