Today, the wines of the DO Somontano are characterised by their modernity, elegance and varietal personality. Just like Alsace, Chile, Australia and California, the DO Somontano is able to boast a tempting variety of truly international style white, rosé and red wines. The majority of wines produced in this region are single variety wines, using both native and international grape varieties, produced using varying winemaking techniques. As well as maintaining a high quality of wines, the Somontano region has managed to maintain fair prices in comparison to the competition, despite heavy economic investments by the wineries. Great quality and fair prices have helped wines from the region conquer much of the domestic market and openly compete with international markets.
Viñas del Vero is named after a river in the Somontano the foot of the Pyrenees, famous for its gorges and canyons. Viñas del Vero S.A. set in late 1986 with the acquisition of 550 acres in Barbastro and other nearby towns. In 1987 began to replant the land with vineyards of the region's traditional grape varieties (Tempranillo, Moristel, Garnacha and Macabeo), along with others of different origins (Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot noir).
