Characteristics of Viña Muriel Reserva
Viña Muriel Reserva is a red wine from the D.O. Rioja made by Bodega Muriel.
This wine has been made with Tempranillo grapes from the region of Elciego. Most of the vineyard is grown in a traditional low-vine plantation system, in chalky, clay-rich soils, very poor in organic material.
The fermentation and maceration take place over the course of 15 days in stainless steel deposits. The daily pump-overs allow an optimum extraction of colour and tannins.
The wine ages for 24 months, with three rackings, in American and French oak barrels of 225 litre capacity. The wine then remains in the bottle for 2 years before going on sale.
SightA burgundy colour. Medium-intensity, clean and bright.NoseA very complex and intense aroma, with perfectly blended aromas of very ripe fruit (plums and raisins) and very fine aromas from its ageing in French oak (spices, aromatic herbs, blond tobacco).TastePowerful structure in the mouth with round tannins allowing this wine to age well. Will go perfectly with lamb cutlets, roasted lamb, fish in sauces and smoky and cured cheeses.
La Rioja is one of the most important areas of wine production in the world. It has a long history, and exceptional soils and climates. From the Tempranillo and Grenache varieties they make great red wines that are masterfully aged which demonstrates the experience passed from generation to generation.
Bodegas Muriel was founded in 1926 by José Murúa Villaverde in Elciego, one of the most famous and appreciated hubs of the Rioja Alavesa.
The balance between the past and the future defines the character of Bodegas Muriel, a winery that opts to connect history with a focus on the present.
In 1986, Julián Murúa decided to continue the work started by his father. He revived the family winery under the Muriel name, which combines his surname (Murúa) with the winery's place of origin, Elciego. Thus, began the second chapter of this exciting project. The winery currently possesses the experience and vision of its managers, Julián Murúa and his son, Javier Murúa.
