Characteristics of Viña Meín Tinto Atlántico
Viña Meín Tinto Atlántico is a red wine from the D.O Ribeiro produced by the Viña Meín winery. This wine is an equal blend of two different grape varieties: Caiño and Brancellao, with a small quantity of Sousón.
The grapes used grow on granitic soils with a shallow layer of sand. The vineyard itself is young, less than 10 years old, and is located in the town of Viete, situated in the Avia valley. The harvest is carried out using small capacity boxes and is carried out in two phases, to ensure that each grape is picked at the optimum moment of ripeness.
At the winery, the harvested grapes pass through a selection table, before undergoing maceration in French oak vats, where they are made soft and delicate, ensuring to avoid and get rid of elements and processes thatmay be too aggressivefor the wine.
The grapes are then finally left with the skins still intact and native yeasts for 10 months in 500litre capacity used barrels. Viña Tinto Meín Atlantic is then bottled without being clarified nor stabilised, with only 1,300 bottles being produced per vintage.
The Viña Meín winery was founded back in 1988 in the D.O Ribeiro. Since the 2014 vintage, the winemaking group Comando G has overseen the production of the wines, receiving more and more praise after each vintage.
La Treixadura has established itself as the prominent variety of the Ribeiro. The variety has become irreplaceable in the region, responsible for the fame achieved by the region's wines, as well as their glorious past. It is a well planted strain, vigorous, fairly resistant to disease, with middle productivity and late maturing, which helps produce wines with a spectacular and personal character through the variety, full of freshness and flavour in the mouth, and added mystery.
