Characteristics of Viña Lanciano Reserva
Viña Lanciano Reserva is a red wine from Rioja produced by the Lan winery. It is a wine blend made up of the Tempranillo (80%) and Mazuelo (20%) varieties.
The harvest is done manually on the Viña Lanciano estate, located near a bend in the river Ebro and owned by the same winery. Vines are more than 30 years old. Upon arriving at the winery, the grapes are selected from sorting tables.
Fermentation occurs in small conical stainless steel tanks. There is a long maceration and continuous pumping to achieve adequate colour removal.
The wine is aged for 6 months in oak barrels from the Russian Caucasus and 12 months in French oak barrels from Allier. Finally, it is refined in bottle for a period of 18 months.
The Lan winery's name derives from the initials of Logroño, Alava and Navarra, the three provinces of the DO La Rioja. The winery specializes in wines made from Tempranillo.
An excellent vintage in Rioja. With a mild autumn, and a cold and rainy winter, the growth season began with enough resources for the perfect development of the vines. During this period, there were no pests and diseases until the end of the growth cycle. During the harvest, there were no significant rains, so the health and ripening of the grapes were excellent. A great year with great aged wines that can be stored for a long time. Perfect balance between the most amiable tannins and the good acidity, which give these wines an extraordinary length.

La Rioja is one of the most important areas of wine production in the world. It has a long history, and exceptional soils and climates. From the Tempranillo and Grenache varieties they make great red wines that are masterfully aged which demonstrates the experience passed from generation to generation.
When you visit Bodegas Lan for the first time and enter the 6,400 m2 ageing warehouse, which is completely diaphanous, it may seem to you that they have literally followed what one of the Marx Brothers shouts out in the film "GO West": "Timber! Timber!". However, the truth is quite the opposite. Behind one of the largest ageing warehouses in our country, which can hold more than 50,000 barrels, we can find a plethora of methods and techniques to achieve the modern Riojas of the 21st century. A grand project that began in 1972 and that catapulted Bodegas Lan as one of the most modern and innovative wineries in Europe and, most likely, in the world.
