Characteristics of Viña Coqueta Reserva
Viña Coqueta is a Reserva red wine from the D.O. La Rioja produced by the winery Remírez de Ganuza.
Viña Coqueta takes its name from the estate "Coqueta", the estate where the grapes used to make this wine are taken from. The varieties used are Tempranillo (90%), Graciano (5%) and skins and pulp of Viura and Malvasía (5%). The harvest is manual and the grapes are collected in 12kg boxes. The grapes are stored for 24 hours in refrigerated storehouses at a temperature controlled between 4 and 6 degrees. The tops and bottoms of the grape clusters are then separated on the sorting tables. This wine is made from the shoulders, the top part of the grape cluster with thus the most exposure to the sun. The wine ferments in small stainless steel tanks and French oak vats. The malolactic fermentation occurs in new barrels. Viña Coqueta is aged for 22 months in new barrels and more than 2 years in the bottle.
La Rioja is one of the most important areas of wine production in the world. It has a long history, and exceptional soils and climates. From the Tempranillo and Grenache varieties they make great red wines that are masterfully aged which demonstrates the experience passed from generation to generation.
One of the hallmarks of the winery Remírez de Ganuza, led by its founder Bodegas Remírez de Ganuza, has always been the pursuit of constant innovation and the use of new techniques to improve the quality of their wines and the winemaking process.
