Characteristics of Villachica Crianza
Villachica Crianza is a red wine from D.O. Toro made by the Villachica winery. It is a single variety Mencía.
The grape used for Villachica Crianza comes from vines between 30 and 50 years old, located at an average altitude of 700 metres, in different areas around Zamora. The soil is stony, with a large amount of pebbles and clay.
The harvest is carried out manually, using 18kg boxes to transport the grapes. After passing over the selection table, the grapes are left to ferment between 24ºC and 26ºC; during this process, they carry out daily processes of 'pumping over' and battonages. Finally, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks.
Villachica Crianza is aged in French and American oak barrels for approximately a year. It is stabilised and gently filtered before being bottled.
D.O. Toro is a Denomination of Origin that is situated in the north west of Spain, along the River Duero and its tributaries. From the beginning the Tinta de Toro variety has produced great red wine that is full of flavour and complexity: powerful and full bodied with great tannins.
