Characteristics of Valduero Crianza

Valduero Crianza is a red wine from the Ribera del Duero produced by Bodegas Valduero, a family winery located in Gumiel del Mercado, 16 km from Aranda de Duero (Burgos).

Bodegas Valduero is characterized by the development of varietal wines of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), which possess 200 hectares, this variety best suits high profile wines from Ribera del Duero.

Tinto Fino grapes used for Valduero Crianza come from old vines 30 years old, located at an altitude of 829m. The vineyards are planted in poor, dry soils with a clayey-calcareous character.

For its preparation, the grapes are harvested by hand and immediately transported to the winery in 14kg boxes.

Fermentation is carried out for 9 days at a temperature of between 23 and 28ºC before a maceration of about 10 days.

Before hitting the market, the wine rests in oak barrels for 15 months and in the bottle for 12 months.

Tasting notes Valduero Crianza

After a dry winter, spring came loaded with rain. Thankfully, this water was stored, since it was much needed during the extremely dry summer. The low temperatures during spring delayed the sprouting of the vines, which led the growth cycle to start with delay. However, this delay was offset thanks to the high temperatures recorded in July and August, to the point of delaying ripening in those younger vineyards. The 2016 vintage beat the production record of the 2014 vintage. And not only in production, but also in quality due to the excellent weather conditions and the excellent health of the vineyards. The wines from this vintage offer a lot of volume, with a good capacity to face the passing of time, with roundness and spectacular tannins. A harvest reminiscent of those of the late 80s and early 90s.
Valduero Crianza 2015 is a structured and amiable red wine. Excellent vintage that shows ripe red fruit on the nose on an elegant toasted background. In the mouth, it is intense at first, with an light mid-palate and a fairly long finish.
After the withering in a mild winter, the warm start of spring brought sprouting forward by almost 10 days. The summer, which was quite cool and dry, enabled the good evolution of the growth cycle and a balanced ripening. This was a vintage without setbacks. Worth mentioning is the high production of this vintage due to good climatic behaviour during the harvest. The wines from this vintage have great colour intensity, and a high fruity expression on the nose and in the mouth. Their balance and tannic potential stand out; these features show us the great potential to produce great wines for ageing, and for lighter and fruitier productions.
Regarding climate, the 2012 vintage started with the sprouting of the vines in the beginning of spring with the cooler temperatures. In May, generous rainfall and high temperatures gave way to a generalised drought throughout the summer. Luckily, the rains started at the onset of the ripening. The precipitations at the beginning of October, and the nice temperatures during the harvest, resulted in the a uniform phenolic ripening. The wines from this vintage have a good alcoholic strength, balanced by moderate levels of acidity, with a good colour and phenolic intensity, and a suitable level of tannins, all important features for a perfect ageing.
Sight Intense garnet, lively and glossy cherry. Nose Fruit, balsamic and vanilla aromas. Notes of black fruit (plum), coffee, snuff. Minty background with notes of cumin and nutmeg. Taste Very well structured, medium bodied, with vigour. Very good acidity. Tasty and toasted notes. Long finish.
Sight Intense and lively maroon colour. High robe. Nose Fruity, balsamic and spiced aromas with hints of nail, cumin and nutmeg. Taste A very well structured wine, pleasant and powerful in the mouth. It ends with a relevant aftertaste. More than a usual ageing.
The 2009 vintage started with a winter of low temperatures, which gave way to a cool spring. A dry summer, with warm days and mild nights, and great temperature changes between day and night, led to very balanced, complex and concentrated grapes. As for climate, it was the perfect vintage. This influenced the health of the grapes, which was excellent. Therefore, the wines from this vintage have a good acidity, which is responsible for long-lived wines with a good structure. And generally, responsible for very fruity wines with fresh red fruit that stands out. One of the great vintages of this region.
Sight Intense cherry maroon colour with purple edges. Bright and thin tear. Nose At first nosing, its marked aromas provided during the ageing in oak are felt. The notes of smoke, snuff, spices and balsamic appear over the aromas of black fruits. Taste Wide wine, with intense flavours dominated by aromas of wood. Rich tannins and balanced acidity. Velvety and fleshy texture and a long and persistent finish. Ribera del Duero elegant and seductive wine.
Sight Garnet intense live high layer. Nose Fruit aromas and spicy balsamic notes.
Taste A well-structured wine. Amable and nerve in the mouth, fleshy, with good tannins and lingering finish.
Sight Garnet intense live high layer. Nose With aromas of fruit, balsamic and spicy with details of cumin, cloves and nutmeg. Taste A well structured wine. Friendly and nerve in the mouth, is fired with an important record.
