Characteristics of Valdelana Malvasía
Valdelana Malvasía is a white wine from the D.O La Rioja produced by the winery Valdena. This wine, as its name suggests, is a monovarietal from the grape Malvasía.
The grapes from which Valdelana Malvasía is born originates from nearly 150 hectares of vines located in Elciego and nearby lands that are owned by the winery.
The winery is located in the subzone of the La Rioja Alavesa, situated between the river Ebro and Sierra Cantabria. The soil is mainly calcareous-clay, the micro-climate is optimum for cultivating vines and are south facing.
The harvest for Valdelana Malvasía is completed at the beginning of October and the grapes are transported with haste to the winery.
Firstly, the grapes are fermented at 14ºC, the wine-making processes are performed following traditional methods.
Valdelana is a family run winery and started working in this sector in the 19th century, over the years it has amassed a large amount of experience in the wine world. The winery is now led by the third generation of the family; it is also worth visiting: there is a museum and sites that date back to the 16th century.
La Rioja is one of the most important areas of wine production in the world. It has a long history, and exceptional soils and climates. From the Tempranillo and Grenache varieties they make great red wines that are masterfully aged which demonstrates the experience passed from generation to generation.
