Characteristics of Vagüera Rapadal
Vagüera El Rapadal is a white wine without denomination of origin produced by Alvar de Dios Hernández in El Pego (Toro).
After working in several different wineries, Alvar de Dios decided to start his own personal project, demonstrating the value of the old vines owned by his grandfather in the town of El Pego. His clear effort towards an organic-biodynamic cultivation and a classic production, result in fine and tasty wines. Alvar de Dios has managed to position himself amongst the most important winemakers of the area.
Vagüera El Rapadal is a white wine made with Godello, Verdejo, Palomino, Albillo and another 15 varieties from a small vineyard area with only 500 vines. A vineyard that is only half an hectare in the municipality of El Maderal, located 25 km from El Pego. It was planted around 1920 on red clay soils with a bottom layer of gravel, at 930 metres of altitude, under the influence of an Atlantic, fresh, humid climate.
Once the harvest is carried out, by hand, and after the grapes have been pressed, a cold static settling process is performed. After this, they are fermented with local yeasts in a 300-litre used oak barrel. Here, they are left for 13 months. Bottled without filtering or clarifying.
Vagüera El Rapadal is an expressive, ample and fresh wine. Extremely complex and dynamic to the nose, white flower and citric fruit notes, which evolve towards more creamy notes, with dried fruit and dry grass.
