Characteristics of Ultreia La Claudina

Ultreia La Claudina is a white wine made by the Raul Perez Wine cellar in Bierzo. Raúl Pérez is one of the renowned names on the Spanish wine scene.

In addition to producing wines in Bierzo, his homeland, he does in several areas in Spain such as Rías Baixas or Ribeira Sacra, as well as in the rest of the world, inluding Portugal and South Africa.

Raúl Pérez is an architect of great wines recognized by critics, such as El Pecado, with 98 Parker points, or Sketch, an Albariño aged under the sea, which scored 96 Parker points. Ultreia La Claudina is a white wine made from Godello.

The grapes come from two plots located in the towns of Cacabelos and Villafranca, in Bierzo, with clay soils.

The wine is aged for 11 months in French oak foudres of 2700 litres. Ultreia La Claudina is a white Godello wine produced like a red, undergoing fermentation. A different and complex Godello, with many nuances.

Fully handmade, Ultreia La Claudina is a white wine of very limited production. If you want to try this wine, hurry. We are sure it will run out quickly!

Tasting notes Ultreia La Claudina

A vintage where the Atlantic climate has ruled over the continental.  The lightness of this type of climate, together with the perfect sanitary condition of the vineyard, has given rise to an excellent vintage from this area.  The year began with typical temperate and rainy winter weather.  What differentiated the year was the intense rains that fell between the months of April and May, conditioning the vegetative development of the vine.    The summer was then noticeable for being warm and dry, the perfect combination for the perfect grape.
Sight Bright yellow, clean and intense. Nose A complex nose. Some initial reduction which leads to white fruit, citrus, white flowers, nuts, balsamic and sweet spices such as vanilla or cinnamon. Taste In the mouth, there is a presence of fruit and minerals. A fresh wine with good acidity and well balanced. Long finish.

D.O. D.O. Bierzo

Winery Raúl Pérez

In recent years, winemakers and developers have settled in the DO Bierzo with very plausible innovative ideas, investing heavily in local wineries, resulting in the production of personal and unique wines. There is no doubt that El Bierzo has become a trendy and cool D.O, aided by the spicy, delicate and velvety Mencia grape, whose character and great capacity of expression of terroir is undoubtedly the regions best asset. Even many compare it to the Pinot Noir, which together with the small scale style of production and topography of its vineyards, the traditional form of the Burgundian bottle used, and the original use of the names of towns and places in their best wines, resulted in this wine region being given the nickname of "little Spanish burgundy".

Raúl Pérez is a philosopher of viticulture. He is also a consultant, apart from an oenologist and the most popular producer of unique wines in Spain. His name is known by a lot of good enthusiasts, and some of his wines are on the agenda of Robert Parker. However, his labels are produced in very small quantities, which makes his wine quite hard to find. He makes his own wines, wines for others and in collaboration with other people. He participates in family projects and other formal and informal ones. He breaks the rules, reaching the limits. He sometimes crosses the line and even crosses borders ... Not bad considering he wanted to become a doctor! Raúl Pérez Raúl Pérez is a philosopher of viticulture.
