Characteristics of Trossos Sants
Trossos Sants is a white wine from the D.O Montsant produced by the Alfredo Arribas – Portal del Priorat winery. This is a single variety wine made with the Garnacha Blanca grape.
The grapes used to produce this wine come from two farms situated in the municipality of Marçà, Llanda and Rompuda Obagas, which have Northeast and Northwest orientations respectively. Both vineyards are home to granitic and sandy soils. The harvest is usually carried out at the beginning of September, depending on the vintage. The bunches are transported to the winery in small 16kg capacity boxes, ensuring that the bunches do not rupture during transport and they maintain in the best condition possible on arrival at the winery.
The vinification process ends with a short ageing of the wine in 500 litre capacity barrels (33%) and stainless steel tanks (66%). After being bottled, Trossos Sants is ready to be placed onto the market.
Alfredo Arribas, a former architect, produces great wines in the Catalan wine regions of Montsant and Priorat. The Trossos collection looks to produce wines that convey and express the characteristic qualities of the terroir from where they come.
The DO Montsant is situated in the province of Tarragona, surrounding the DOQ Priorat. Although a young Denominación de Origen, The DO Monstant is located in a land with a large history in winemaking. The wines, mostly reds, are typically made with Grenache and Carignan grapes and are authentic, wild and artisanal. Wines produced in this region are usually extremely good value given the high quality.
