Characteristics of Torres Reserva Real
Torres Reserva Real is a red wine from D.O. Penedès produced by Torres. In 1995, King Don Juan Carlos I paid a visit to Bodegas Torres to mark the 125th anniversary of the founding of the winery, and he was offered to try the red wine, exclusively for the winery, from a small vineyard in Santa Margarida de Agulladolç. The king was delighted with the wine, and from 1997 Bodegas Torres decided to market it as a souvenir for the Royal visit and tasting. Torres Reserva Real is a coupage of the best grapes; Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot grown at the farm Santa Margarida d'Agulladolç in the D.O. Penedès, which has slate soils and scarce production. Torres Reserva Real is aged for 18 months in new French barrels of a fine-grained texture from Nevers (France)
SightRed mahogany color that is very dense. Brown nuances that are gained from aging in the barrel.NoseOn the nose it is intense and complex with fruit notes of blackberry and raspberry jam. There are some roasted notes and smoky hints from the oak aging.TasteOn the palate it is powerful, fleshy and concentrated. Sweet tannins and well structured. There appear to be ripe fruit notes like prunes or raisins. You can see the oak aging with the cocoa and leather notes. Slight minerality from the slate. Persistent finish.
Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, permitted grapes, experimental grapes, and those that demostrate intrinsic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used! But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, the common denominator of all the wines from Penedès continues to be balance and quality.
Bodegas Torres is a family business of several generations dedicated to the production of wine and brandy in the Penedés, and they now have an extensive range of products which are exported to more than 140 countries worldwide.
