Characteristics of Tinto Figuero Viñas Viejas
Tinto Figuero Viñas Viejas is a red wine from the Ribera del Duero region produced by the Figuero winery. The wine is produced using only Tempranillo grapes.
The grapes used to make this wine come from vineyards that are over 50 years old from various plots owned by the winery near the locality of La Horra, and are situated between 400-800 metres above sea level.
The harvest is carried out manually, and are transported immediately to the winery with the upmost care in small baskets of 12kg capacity. This is to ensure that the grape does not grape before arrival, and that it maintains it's characteristics.
On arrival, the grapes undergo cold maceration at a temperature of 12 degrees, which lasts for 2 days with an alcholic temperature at a controlled temperature at 29 degrees. During this phase 2 manuel pumpings are gone. Finally, the wine is macerated for 2 weeks and undergoes a final malolactic fermentation.
Viñas Viejas then ages for 15 months in new French oak barrels and then clarified with egg white. After bottling, the wine then rests for another 6 months before being marketed.
The Figuero winery is situated in the province of Burgos where it was founded in 2001. The company is led by the Figuero's, a married couple, who rely on the invaluable support of their 3 children.

Ribera del Duero is a Denomination of Origin located on the northern plateau, bathed by the waters of the River Duero, where they produce delicious and recognised red wines with great complexity made from the Trinto Fino grape variety.
Jose Maria Garcia and Milagros Figuero, after many years dedicated exclusively to cultivating their vineyards for the sole purpose of obtaining the highest quality grapes, embark on a new project. In 2001, with the help of his three children, Carlos, Antonio and Henar, the new project became a reality: the cellar, the venue, where they were born and grow, The Horra, one of the privileged places of DO Ribera del Duero.
