Characteristics of Tinita Viñas de Verdejo

Tinita Viñas de Verdejo is a white wine produced by the winery Soto y Manrique, in Villaverde de Medina, D.O. Rueda.

After working in the wine industry since 1994, in 2012 Jesús Mª Soto decided to start this family project. Soto y Manrique is a small winery that carries the name of both him and his wife. They work with their own vineyards, all of which where planted in 1990.

Since the very beginning, Jesús Mª's objective was to produce wines that showed the character of the soils where they are born from. Limestone, granite and sandy soils that can give the maximum necessary freshness and elegance, and utmost respect for the variety.

The results are simple, direct, very fresh, varietal wines, with an excellent price for quality.

Tinita Viñas de Verdejo is a wine made from 100% Verdejo, from a vineyard planted on loam-sandy soils, at 780 metres of altitude. 75% of the grapes ferment at a low temperature in stainless steel deposits, after a 10-hour maceration. It is pressed and settled, with a subsequent ageing on its lees. The remaining 25% ferments in oak barrels after maceration, pressing and settling, with a subsequent ageing of 3 months, undergoing periodical batonnages.

Tasting notes Tinita Viñas de Verdejo

Tinita Viñas de Verdejo 2018 is a creamy white wine with intense herbaceous fragrances, citrus and tropical fruit notes and balsamic touches. On the palate it is unctuous, complex and fresh. Agile and dry, it has a good enveloping acidity and a balanced structure. A very direct wine with an elegant and persistent finish.
Tinita Viñas de Verdejo 2017 is a fresh, creamy and direct wine. This vintage is highly varietal, with aromas of white citrus fruit, and with light notes of tropical fruit. On the palate it is lively and very dry.
The 2016 vintage, rated as very good, began with an autumn and winter with high temperatures for these seasons that predicted an acceleration of the vines’ growth cycle. At the beginning of the spring, temperatures fell and rainfall returned to normal figures. This fact was translated in an adjustment as far as budding and flowering dates. At the beginning of June, the heat arrived and stayed all summer until the beginning of the harvest. In general terms, it was a rainy and somewhat warm year. The wines of this vintage are characterised for being aromatic and with a good acidity. Where wines in their youth will preserve their aromatic and fresh features.
The 2015 vintage was rated as very good in a year where no climatic accident occurred. Autumn and winter were somewhat warmer than normal but with normal rainfall. In spring, the growth cycle started a few days in advance, but temperatures and rains continued normally until the beginning of summer. Days before the harvest, temperatures became milder and the end of ripening was very good. The wines of this vintage are characterised by a good balance between maturity and acidity. A good aromatic profile that will age correctly.

Designation of Origin D.O. Rueda

Winery Bodega Soto y Manrique

When we talking about the Rueda wines, we are often referring to their white wines. The white wines produced in this region are often made with the Verdejo variety, the main variety of Rueda, planted along the Douro River and its tributaries. Rueda white wines often offer lots of floral notes, scrubland low, delicate aromas and a great acidity given by strong temperature differences between day and night. Apart from white wine, Rueda also produces red wine, often made with the Tempranillo variety.
