Characteristics of The Glenrothes 8 Years (The Macphail's Collection)
Glenrothes 8 Years is a whisky produced by The Glenrothes distillery, owned by The Macphail's Collection, a small exclusive range of fine single malt Scotch whiskeys from several distilleries in Scotland.
The Glenrothes distillery has over 130 years' experience of producing malt whiskeys since it was founded in 1879 in Rothes, a Scottish village in the Speyside region, which is considered the cradle of single malt whiskies.
For processing, a mature thick Scottish barley is used, which is soaked with clean water, swollen, flipped, allowed to germinate and dried in an oven. The liquid obtained is allowed to cool for fermentation, then a little yeast is added and two days later a fermented mash is obtained.
After distillation, a process through which the liquid is heated twice in a pair of traditional copper stills with a very long neck, the vapours condense to form a distillate, the central part of which is used. This part (the heart of the distillate) represents little more than 17-19% of the total liquid obtained. Finally, the alcoholic strength of the distillate is reduced without maturation and it is allowed to rest and age in a warehouse in oak barrels.
