Characteristics of Sumarroca Gewürztraminer

Sumarroca Gewürztraminer is a white wine made by the winery Sumarroca in D.O. Penedès.
Sumarroca is a family-run winery founded in 1999. It is located in Subirats (Barcelona). 

Sumarroca Gewürztraminer, as its name suggests, in made 100% with the Central-European variety Gewürztraminer. Despite being a foreign variety, this wine is one of the classic varietal wines of the winery, which they have been making for 25 years at their farm of Sumarroca.
The vineyards grow on calcareous soils, poor in organic matter with remainders of gravel.
In its production, they first carry out a short pre-fermentation maceration for 4 hours at 10ºC. This way, the grapes’ complexity remains untouched.
Then, after the soft pressing of the grapes and a static settling process of 24 hours, the must ferments at 14ºC for 20 days.
Before it is bottled, Sumarroca Gewürztraminer stays for a short term in stainless steel deposits.

Tasting notes Sumarroca Gewürztraminer

Sight Bright yellow colour, medium-intensity with greenish reflections. Nose Delicate and pleasant aroma with floral nuances of jasmine and rose combined with fruity aromas of peaches. Taste Silky and fresh on the palate, with intense floral notes. Long and aromatic aftertaste.

Pale yellow colour with waxen borders. Very bright and clean.

 Nose Good aromatic intensity with strong notes of not very ripe fruit and elegant smoked aromas on a background of white and pink flowers. Very varietal. Taste

Wide attack and an outstanding fruity and floral mid palate. Slightly unctuous wine with a balanced acidity. Nice finish with hints of fruit.

Designation of Origin D.O. Penedès

Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, permitted grapes, experimental grapes, and those that demostrate intrinsic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used! But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, the common denominator of all the wines from Penedès continues to be balance and quality.
