Characteristics of Suertes del Marqués Los Pasitos
Suertes del Marqués Los Pasitos is a red wine produced by the Suertes del Marqués winery in the D.O. Valle de la Orotava. This wine is made exclusively with the Babodo Negro grape variety.
The wine comes from the vineyard that gives it its name, Los Pasitos, in Tenerife. The grapes are cultivated using the Cordón Royat Simple method. The harvest is carried out manually, using small 16kg capacity boxes.
At the winery, the grapes are left to ferment spontaneously using native yeasts. This process is carried out in open tanks with around 600 litres capacity. Malolactic fermentation, however, is carried out in French oak barrels of different capacities.
Suertes del Marqués Los Pasitos is then finally aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, and is then bottled and placed onto the market without filtration.
Tenerife, with an area of 2,034km2, is the largest and most populous of the Canary Islands, known internationally as the “island of eternal spring”. This island also unites the most wine DOs, among them the DO Valle de la Orotava, where today the identity of its wines, whites and reds, are based on the particular and unique character of the native Listán grape variety.
