Stella di Campalto Rosso di Montalcino is an organic and biodynamic, barrel-aged red wine made with the Sangiovese variety in the DOC Rosso di Montalcino (Tuscany) by Azienda Agricola S. Giuseppe.
One of the first certified biodynamic wineries in Montalcino, the San Giuseppe estate was acquired by Stella Viola di Campalto in 1992. A total of 13 hectares including 5.5 hectares of vineyards surrounded by forests and olive trees with organic certification. Each harvest and wine is treated slightly differently, but generally the Azienda Agricola S. Giuseppe wines have a delicate and aromatic quality that is not always associated with the typical Brunello wine produced in this area.
Stella di Campalto Rosso di Montalcino comes from organically certified vineyards on the estate itself, which are cultivated according to biodynamic principles. These are vines planted in stone-rich soils and at an altitude of 240-340 metres above sea level. No chemical products are used and the estate is treated as one entity with plants, animals and people living in harmony. The harvest is carried out manually in small boxes at the optimum point of ripeness.
In the winery the Stella di Campalto Rosso di Montalcino grapes are destemmed and alcoholic fermentation begins in large wooden tanks without adding anything other than a minimum amount of sulphur. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 19-21 months. Finally it is refined in the bottle for 16 to 21 months.
Stella di Campalto Rosso di Montalcino is a mysterious, vibrant and refined red wine. A superior red made in Tuscany.
