Steinmetz Wintricher Geierslay GW is a monovarietal Riesling dry white wine obtained from a small plot of 1.2 hectares of vines that are over 60 years old, produced by the German winery Günther Steinmetz in Brauneberg, on the banks of the Moselle.
The acronym GW (Great Wintricher) in Steinmetz Wintricher Geierslay GW refers to the quality of this wine, which is comparable to that of a French Grand Cru. The vines grow on a south-facing slope of the Moselle, where purple slate, quartzite and iron predominate in the composition of the soil, and at its altitude a colder microclimate is generated, resulting in an extremely elegant Riesling that is typical of Saar.
Steinmetz Wintricher Geierslay GW is a Riesling with a mineral touch that characterises the wines from the Günther Steinmetz winery, and with the freshness provided by the citrus notes of pink grapefruit that are balanced with the fruity presence of sweet melon and rounded off with a friendly acidity. Complex and elegant and with a predicted long life, it has a potential for keeping for up to 20 years.
"Great wines can only arise from harmony with nature" This was Günther Steinmetz's philosophy that Stefan Steinmetz, who was 18 years old when he took charge of the winery, has applied rigorously in making wine in a way that respects the environment, since no herbicides or pesticides have been used in his vineyards for over 30 years.
Steinmetz Wintricher Geierslay GW is one of these great wines resulting from a rigorous selection of grapes at their point of ripeness, together with a limited production. The winery only produces 1,200 bottles of this complex and well-structured Riesling, whose vivacity promises surprises for many years to come.
