Characteristics of Sommos Varietales Tinto
Sommos Varietales Tinto is a wood-aged red wine made by Bodega Sommos with the Tempranillo, Syrah and Merlot varieties in the D.O. Somontano, in Aragón (Spain).
Sommos is a newly built winery in the heart of Somontano, in Barbastro that champions tradition through innovation. Their building is considered “One of the Architectural Wonders of the Winemaking World” and they produce avant-garde wines without letting go of their roots.
Sommos Varietales Tinto comes from a vineyard planted in sandy-loam soils that are low in organic matter, and producing an average of 4,500 kg / Ha. The vines are cultivated using traditional agriculture and the plots are harvested separately and at night.
The Sommos Varietales Tinto grapes pass over the selection table and vatting happens by gravity. They firstly undergo a 72-hour pre-fermentation cold maceration and then ferment at a temperature of 24º to 26º, followed by a post-fermentation maceration of 5 days. Finally, the wine is aged in French oak vats and in a selection of barrels for 8 months.
