Skerk Malvasía is a Malvasía variety orange wine produced by Azienda Agricola Skerk in the IGT Venezia Giulia, in Venice, Italy.
The Skerk Malvasía wine is made exclusively with grapes from a centuries-old Hellenic strain of Malvasia that has been growing in the Carso region since ancient times. This area lies on the border between Italy and Slovenia. The grapes are vinified in cellars dug directly into the limestone. They are harvested at their optimum point of ripeness, selected in the vineyard, and when they reach the winery they undergo a prolonged skin-contact maceration. The must ferments with its native yeasts and is aged in wood at a controlled temperature. The resulting wine is bottled without clarifying, filtering or adding sulphites.
Sandi Skerk took over running Azienda Agricola Skerk from his father Boris and continued the Friuli tradition of making small production natural wines and orange wines. Sandi’s wines are completely unmasked and some of the best in the region. This is a place where the native varieties produce honest and elegant wines. Deep wines, with texture but also a pleasant richness. These wines have their own personality and are well worth trying.
