Characteristics of Sicus Sons Cartoixà
Sicus Sons Cartoixà is a white wine without denomination of origin produced by the winery Sicus in Bonastre (Baix Penedés).
Sicus is the personal project of Eduard Pie, a young winegrower of the region who has wanted to reinterpret the area by reusing the native varieties. He uses production techniques that are respectful with the grapes and the environment, without using herbicides or pesticides.
The vineyards of Sicus are located at the foot of Massís de Bonastre (south-west of D.O. Penedés), in a mountainous area next to the sea, surrounded by olive trees and forming the typical Mediterranean landscape. The soils of the area are shallow, with scarce humidity and little organic matter. The climate, which is clearly Mediterranean, behaves differently each year. This distinguishes certain shades that are reflected in the personality of each wine.
Sicus Sons Cartoixà is a wine made from Xarello from the farm La Caseta. It is located 6 km from the sea, at 180 metres of altitude, on shallow clayey-calcareous soils with little organic matter. Each vine yields 1 kg of grapes.
Harvesting is carried out manually, and the grapes are actually destemmed in the vineyard. Then, they are placed in clay amphorae buried in the middle of the rows of vines, letting the fermentation begin spontaneously with native yeasts. Maceration with the skins takes place for 10 days. Then , the grapes are pressed and placed again in the amphora until the fermentation ends. For 5 months, the wine rests inside the amphora in the vineyard. After this, the wine is taken out and transported to the winery, where it is bottled.

Sicus Sons Cartoixà 2015 is a concentrated, intense and complex wine. This vintage stands out for its aromatic expression, full of nuances that range from ripe white fruit, to notes of Mediterranean grass and citrus. Its fulness gives way to an elegant mineral finish. There are only 250 bottles of this really amazing wine.
