Characteristics of San Vicente

San Vicente is a great red wine made by Señorío de San Vicente in D.O. Rioja
Señorío de San Vicente is owned by the Eguren brothers, owners of other great wineries like Sierra Cantabria in D.O. Rioja and Teso la Monja in D.O. Toro.

San Vicente is a single variety Tempranillo Peludo red wine, a historical variety that has practically disappeared due to its low yield.

San Vicente is produced following an artisanal process. The harvest is done by hand, after a selection of the best bunches from their own vines. A winery that has a second selection of the grapes which means they are only left with the best grapes and best bunches.
After the fermentation, there is an aging for 20 months in new French Bordeaux barrels (90%) and American (10%).

Alcohol: 14.5%

Tasting notes San Vicente

It was a fairly balanced year until the harvest season arrived. The beginning of the cycle, in October, started with high temperatures, and it was not until mid-November that the first frosts began and the leaves of the vines began to fall to prepare for winter. Throughout the winter, rainfall was generous and water reserves could be secured for the growth cycle period. During the months of March and April, there was an increase in temperatures that led to the good sprouting of the plant. The growth cycle of the vines was suitable, and the sudden rise of temperatures resulted in quite a fast blooming. There was an optimal growth of the fruit, until the harvest season, when rains damaged the state of the grapes and caused a drop in production. This is a good vintage, but the last rains damaged the final result. The wines are good and can be drunk in the short- and mid-term, they have a medium body and material.
This vintage was marked by a very rainy and cold spring just at the time of the growth cycle. This fact caused it to ripen unevenly and with a certain delay. Thanks to a fairly dry September and October, the grapes that ripened with a certain delay were harvested in a selective manner. A complicated vintage, but with good results since there was an exhaustive selection of the grapes. A good balance between concentration and acidity in their youth define the wines from this vintage.
A good balance and few climate incidents define this vintage. The autumn began with mild temperatures and lack of rain. In March began the rain,as well as the development of the vines. At the beginning of the growth cycle of the vines, temperatures decrease and there were a lot of rainy days. This caused an irregular growth of the vineyard. After an unstable month of May, the temperatures increased, and a cycle without rains began. This resulted in perfect sprouts and a good flowering. The summer months were warm and with some heat waves, which caused a slower growth cycle and some symptoms of water stress, and thus a concentration of fruit. At the end of September, and before the harvest, there was some rain that was perfect for a great year thanks to the perfect ripening of the grapes. Good acidity and concentration define the wines from this vintage. Fine wines with a great ageing potential.
Sight Pretty picota cherry colour. High robe, intense garnet rim. Bright and an abundant tear. Nose On the nose it is intense and expressive. Smoky, notes from the barrel, high roast mixed with coffee and cocoa. Ai it opens up it shows ripe black fruit notes, minerality and certain notes of liquor. Taste On the palate it is a powerful wine with lots of fruit but subtle as well. Its time in the wood gives it fineness and special elegance.
A great red wine, long and persistent that shows total expression of the Tempranillo Peludo, a unique variety.
Sight Intense and covered cherry red colour with intense maroon edges. High robe. Bright. Abundant tears stain the glass. Nose Concentrated, intense and expressive nose. Fine toasted and roasted hints, coffee, cocoa, spices and vanilla give way to very ripe black fruits and some floral and lactic notes and mineral reminiscences. Taste On the palate this wine is elegant, powerful and fleshy with a great load of fruit, well mixed with wood. Structured, balanced and without edges. An excellent red wine, long and very persistent.
Sight Intense, covered, picota cherry colour. High robe with an intense maroon rim. Bright. Abundant tears stain the glass. Nose Concentrated, intense and expressive nose. Fine toasted and roasted notes, coffee and cocoa and spices, vanilla, give way to notes of ripe black fruit, floral notes, slightly lactic notes and mineral hints. Taste Elegant, powerful and fleshy on the palate with a high concentration of fruity very well mixed with the wood. Structured and balanced, a magnificent red wine, long and very persistent.
Sight Intense dark cherry colour with maroon touches. Bright and with a high robe. Dense tears. Nose In the nose, this wine is a pleasure. This complex wine gains in intensity when swirling the glass. At the first nosing, the notes of caramel, chocolate and spices provided by the wood are noticed. When it opens up, balanced intense notes of red fruit appear and progressively become mellow. Milky notes, balsamic touches, a mineral hint and a nuance of animal leather are also felt.
Taste Very broad, powerful, tasty and very expressive red wine from La Rioja. At the first plunge, this voluminous wine coats the mouth with fruit, spices and toasted notes. It has a silky, elegant and mellow mid palate. It has a lively acidity and elegant tannins. Long and lingering finish. A wine to be enjoyed slowly.
Sight Cherry red garnet very dark. Bright and glyceric.
Nose

Great aromatic intensity, we find feelings of toasted and smoked in the foreground, accompanied by lots of ripe red fruit, black fruit, with spicy, coffee, leather and minerals.

Taste Powerful, rich, large, meaty, perfect acidity, the palate is fresh, aromatic and fruity. Long and elegant finish with smooth aromas, minerals, fruits, very mature.
