San Román 2016 is a mature red wine with aromas of ripe red and black fruits, violet flowers, mineral notes and hints of liquorice over a dry ground background. On the palate it is fruity, deep and voluminous. It has fine and well integrated tannins. The finish is elegant and lingering.
This year, which was described as a very good one, started with high temperatures that did not lower until the end of November. There were also quite low water reserves. In the early spring, temperatures began to rise, leading to the first bleedings of the vines. The beginning of the growth cycle did not present any major upheavals, except for the low humidity due to the lack of rain during the winter. During May, the vines began to develop their buds, causing the flowering during the first week of June. When they started to ripen, the drought and the stress on the vines was evident. At the end of August, there a certain amount of rain helped to hydrate the bunches, which helped to collect the healthiest grapes. As a result, we have a year with wines of a concentrated profile and some acidity. Perfect in their youth and with a medium ageing capacity.
San Román 2014 is a concentrated, powerful and elegant Toro wine. This year is distinguished by the good ripening and acidity of the grapes. A muscular wine, where the black fruit stands out with the spices of the Tinta de Toro and those of the barrel. The months it spends in barrels round this wine and give it finer tannins. Ideal to drink now or to save for a few years.
The 2013 vintage, rated as a very good one, began in a complicated way. In the early spring, in April and May, temperatures were low and there were heavy rains, significantly delaying the start of the growth cycle. This resulted in late flowering and therefore later ripening. Before the harvest, there was a considerable amount of rain, which produced an interspersed harvest. After a cold and rainy year, the profile of the wines they have produced are less concentrated than usual. Fresher and with a good acidity.
