Characteristics of Riu

Trio Infernal Riu is a red wine from Priorat prepared by the Trio Infernal cellar. This wine is a blend of Grenache (45%), Carignan (45%) and Syrah (10%).

The vineyards from which the grapes come are located at an altitude of between 300 and 500 metres. These are treated by organic viticulture.

Once in the winery, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature and extraction is performed by manual movement.

The maceration lasts about a month and the final aging is carried out for 12 months in French oak barrels previously containing one or two wines with capacity of 500 litres.

The beauty of the lands of Montsant seduced Combier, Fisher and Gerin, three French winemakers who decided in 2002 to start the Infernal Trio project.

Tasting notes Riu

We present the new 2016 vintage, characterised by the wettest winterin the last five years. Not only did it rain in winter, but there was also wet weather up until summer arrived, especially inMarch and April. In summer everything changed, and it was one of the driest inhistory, with only 28 litres being recorded between July and October. If we compare the temperatures in 2012 and 2016, the 2016 crophad to endure a much colder winter than in 2012, which turned outto be positive, since the frost cleared the fields ofvine parasites. During the spring, lower temperaturesthan in 2012 were also recorded.Due to all these climatic conditions there was a delay insprouting, which began on March 28th, and which led to a delayin flowering of between three and four weeks.Once the summer arrived, the Priorat got all the luck, sincethe rains disappeared, while in the rest of Europethey were incessant. It was something that nobody expected considering thewinter we’d had. Taking into account the delay insprouting, the harvest started around mid-October on some ofthe estates.Obtaining fresh wines with an extraordinary acidity is dueto this long duration of the grape in the strain that has so characterisedthis vintage.
The vintage began in autumn in the best possible way, with good rainfalls that would fill the water reserves for optimal growth development. Winter was characterised by low temperatures and even snow covered some areas of Priorat. March started wet and cold, which delayed the budding of the vines. In mid-May, flowering was encouraged and was followed by a somewhat unstable June with several rainfalls.
A year that started with some problems with the flowering but ended up being very good. Winter was colder and rainier than usual. Spring continued with days of low temperatures and a lot of water that delayed flowering and the consequent setting problems until the end of March, affected production. After a complicated year, when the summer began, the rains stopped and the temperatures rose, providing excellent ripening due to optimal rainfall during the year. The year has therefore been one of the best in recent years. Fluidity, acidity and concentration augur for a long life of the wines of this vintage.
Sight Cherry colour, powerful, with purple accents. Scintillating and abundant tear. Nose Aromas of ripe black fruit and floral notes. Good mineral background precedes balsamic and spicy touches. Taste Structured and very tasty. The palate is broad, tannins and acidity are merged, at first powerful and pleasant. There is a balsamic and floral aftertaste, slightly fruity.
Sight Cherry red colour, intense, with violet reflections. Bright, with abundant tears. Nose In the nose, an intense load of fruit stands out together with ripe black fruit, with notes of the alcohol and floral notes. An important mineral background stands over the balsamic and spiced hints, which take more time to appear. Taste In the mouth, it is tasty, structured, with a long mid-palate and sustainable due to a magnificent acidity and powerful but nice tannins. The aftertaste is more balsamic than in the nose. Fruity retro-olfaction, reminiscences of violet and liquorice.
Sight Attractive and intense cherry colour, with thin purple edges. Medium robe. A bright wine with thin tears. Nose Elegant and strong aromas, but not as strong as most of the wines from Priorat. The minerality provided by the soil dominates the nose along with the juicy notes of red fruit. When it opens up, a light touch of ripe black fruit is released along with notes of spices (soft aromas of vanilla and coffee), light notes of nuts and herbal aromas of scrubland. It has a subtle and refreshing balsamic background. Light, subtle and complex wine. Taste In the mouth is becomes more powerful, and gains in expressivity. It shows a soft, tasty mid palate full of notes of fruit perfectly balanced with its minerality. Fleshy and fresh wine with integrated tannins and a long and persistent finish that leaves a sweety aftertaste. A different wine from Priorat, quite mineral but with a good touch of juicy fruit. A wine with a great balance.
Sight In the light red color with blue trim, clean and brilliant middle-tier. Nose In red and black fruit nose accompanied by fresh Mediterranean undergrowth, rosemary, thyme, fennel, balsamic menthol ... bay leaf, black mint, mineral and graphite, carbon. Taste Flavor goes soft and fleshy with a fine acidity, in the center of the mouth is fresh and tasty dating again, all we have captured the aromas in the nose with greater intensity, firm tannins i sweet aftertaste to departing from i fine a retro nasal persistent spice, menthol and soothing.

Designation of Origin D.O.Q. Priorat

Winery Trio Infernal

Priorat is craftsmanship and tradition, old and robust vines that are grown and born deep inside the province of Tarragona. They are grown on slopes that are sleety with low fertility and difficult to grow in. In Priorat they produce great red wines of an excellent quality, a maroon colour, robust, dense and rich flavour, intense aromas and sometimes there are reflections present of minerals from the soils.

Imágenes y situación D.O.Q. Priorat

Fisher-Gérin-Combier was created in 2002 by three French winemakers in Torroja de Priorat, seduced by the magical landscape of vineyards at the foot of the Montsant mountains, and motivated by the determination of a common project. On one trip, while seeking the ideal location for your project, visit René Barbier (Clos Mogador), a leading 'guilty' of the new Priorat, and he convinces them that this is the perfect place to develop your dream.
